Bachelor of Science in Avionics Technology (BSAVT)

The Bachelor of Science in Avionics Technology (BSAVT) program at Indiana Aerospace University (IAU) is a comprehensive undergraduate degree designed to provide students with the technical expertise and theoretical knowledge required to excel in the field of avionics. Avionics, which encompasses the electrical and electronic systems used in aviation, is a vital component of modern aircraft. This program prepares students to work with sophisticated avionics systems in both commercial and military aircraft. It is fully aligned with the requirements set forth by the Philippine Civil Air Regulations (PCAR) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), ensuring that graduates meet international standards in avionics technology.

Program Overview

  1. Curriculum Structure

The BSAT program at IAU offers a robust curriculum that integrates both theoretical learning and practical training. Students are introduced to a wide range of subjects, including:

  • Avionics Systems and Components
  • Aircraft Electrical Systems
  • Communication and Navigation Systems
  • Radar and Flight Instruments
  • Aircraft Power Supply and Distribution
  • Avionics Testing and Troubleshooting
  • Aviation Safety and Regulatory Compliance
  • Aircraft Maintenance and Repair

The curriculum is designed to ensure that students gain a strong foundation in both the electrical and electronic systems used in aircraft, as well as the skills required to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot these systems in compliance with PCAR Part 6, which outlines the qualifications for maintenance personnel in the Philippines.

  1. Compliance with PCAR and CAAP Standards

The BSAT program is fully aligned with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) regulations and PCAR Part 6, which govern the licensure and training of aviation professionals. Students in this program are trained to meet the stringent standards required to become licensed avionics technicians or avionics maintenance engineers, ensuring they are equipped to perform maintenance on complex avionics systems while adhering to national and international aviation safety standards.

  1. On-the-Job Training with Ormoc Air, IAU Aerodrome, and Aplus Technical Training Center

A distinctive feature of the BSAT program is its on-the-job training (OJT) opportunities. IAU has established strong partnerships with Ormoc Air, IAU Aerodrome, and Aplus Technical Training Center to provide students with hands-on experience.

Through this collaboration, students gain valuable real-world exposure to avionics maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on a variety of aircraft types. At Ormoc Air, students receive practical training on operational procedures, avionics testing, and installation. At IAU Aerodrome, students work within a CAAP-approved environment, gaining familiarity with the rigorous maintenance and inspection standards required by aviation regulatory authorities. Additionally, through IAU’s partnership with Aplus Technical Training Center, students can earn Levels 1-3 Airbus A320 training certificates, an essential credential for those pursuing careers in the maintenance of modern aircraft. This unique partnership enhances students’ qualifications, further equipping them for the demands of the aviation industry.

  1. Technological Expertise and Industry-Relevant Skills

The program emphasizes the importance of understanding modern avionics technology, including emerging technologies and innovations in aviation systems. Students are trained in the maintenance and integration of avionics systems such as radar, autopilot, GPS, flight management systems (FMS), and communication systems. The curriculum ensures that graduates are proficient in diagnosing and resolving technical issues in these systems, ensuring their airworthiness and operational reliability.

  1. Career Pathways

Graduates of the BSAT program are prepared for careers in various sectors within the aviation industry, including:

  • Avionics Technician
  • Avionics Maintenance Engineer
  • Aircraft Electrical Systems Technician
  • Avionics Installation Specialist
  • Aviation Safety and Compliance Officer
  • Aircraft Maintenance Manager

Additionally, the program provides a strong foundation for further education or certification in specialized avionics fields or broader aviation management roles. Graduates are also well-prepared for certification as Avionics Maintenance Engineers by CAAP, opening opportunities for advanced roles in avionics maintenance and management.

The Bachelor of Science in Avionics Technology program at Indiana Aerospace University combines academic rigor with extensive practical training. Through its partnerships with Ormoc Air, IAU Aerodrome, and Aplus Technical Training Center, students gain hands-on experience in the aviation industry, ensuring they are fully equipped to meet the high standards required in avionics maintenance and repair. By aligning with PCAR and CAAP regulations, the program ensures that graduates are prepared to contribute effectively to the safety, reliability, and advancement of aviation technology, both in the Philippines and internationally.
